PC*MILER|RAIL-CONNECT: Connectivity with Other Windows and Transportation Software Products

PC*MILER|Rail-Connect is an optional module that enables seamless integration of the full product functionality with other Windows-based software applications. This product enables users to automatically generate PC*MILER|Rail mileage from within Microsoft® Excel®, and to perform a variety of rail rating and operations analyses.

PC*MILER|Rail-Connect can display equipment and facility information as “pin maps” for real time routing and mapping. This capability enables users to display rail car location data for detailed operation visualization:

PC*MILER|Rail-Connect also enables the integration of PC*MILER|Rail routes, mileage, reports and maps with all leading transportation and logistics management, costing, and tracking software systems.

PC*MILER|Rail-TCP/IP

Now available, PC*MILER|Rail-TCP/IP provides a way to interact with the PC*MILER|Rail Connectivity (DLL) Products, running on Windows personal computers, over a TCP/IP network from any other computer platform. Most applicable functions of PC*MILER|Rail-Connect are supported. (Mapping functions are currently not supported via the TCP/IP interface.)

PC*MILER|RAIL-BATCHPRO

PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro allows users to automatically summarize empty, loaded, and total mileage by equipment ID, railroad, and/or state/province for a large number of rail movements. Batch processing gives PC*MILER|Rail the power and flexibility to handle tasks involving large volumes of origin-destination records. Users can process locations using a variety of geographic codes including city/state names, SPLC’s, FSAC’s, ERPC’s and R260 junction codes.

The batch processing module features numerous processing options, including:

  • The ability to calculate distances between locations identified on adjacent records, using industry-standard data such as car location messages (CLM’s) or any custom format

  • The ability to generate multiple rail routes (with railroad, mileage and junction information for each route) from origin-destination input records for all four route types

  • The ability to generate point-to-point railroad mileage from input records containing an equipment identifier, railroad and origin-destination SPLC’s

Using PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro with Rail EDI Products
Several communications packages are used by rail carriers and shippers to retrieve CLM’s and track the movement of their equipment. PC*MILER|Rail’s batch processing module works with any of these products to summarize empty, loaded and total miles by equipment ID, rail carrier and state/province. The PC*MILER|Rail-Connect module also allows users to identify and visually analyze the current location and historical progress of their equipment.

The batch processing module enables the retrieval of CLM’s into “Report Files” using one of the standard CLM formats. This data is retrieved from one or more carriers on a regular basis, and collected in the same report file over time (a month or more) to build a historic record of car movements for the fleet. These files may then be accessed directly from PC*MILER|Rail.
