PC*Miler Rail

ROUTE MAP

PC*MILER|Rail’s Route Map displays and prints the different routes, railroads and locations in multiple colors and line widths. The detailed map enables you to examine routes in detail, visually evaluate routing alternatives, and perform a variety of "what-if" analyses. To view all available routes simultaneously from the AutoRouter, click on the Show All button. This will automatically bring the map to the front.

Commands in the Map menu enable you to zoom in and out of the map display, frame routes in the window, and control such things as the level of detail and the number of routes, rail lines, place names and legends shown on the map. In addition to displaying the generated routes, the map displays U.S., Canadian, and Mexican political boundaries, state boundaries, city names, and railroads. The Map Features dialog box (shown below) enables you to customize the appearance of the map. You can control which features are drawn and the order in which they are drawn.

In the Map Features dialog box, a checkmark denotes items that will be displayed. To remove the checkmark, highlight the feature in the list that you do not want to display and click on the Hide button. The Show All and Hide All buttons can be used to select or remove all of the checkmarks. Clicking the Reset button restores the default settings.

The order (from bottom to top) in which the features appear in the dialog box determines the order in which they are drawn: items on the bottom of the list are drawn under the ones at the top. The Raise, Lower, To Top, and To Bottom buttons can be used to manipulate the list.

RAILROAD MAP FRAMING

To locate and frame a particular railroad on the map, select Map from the tool bar in the application window and then choose Railroads… from the drop down list.

In the Railroad Display Control window, select the railroad you would like to frame on the map from the Available Railroads window (lower left-hand corner). Next, click on the Show button and you will see your selection drawn in the RouteMap window. Under Level of Detail, place a check mark in the box next to Frame Carrier(s). Click on OK. To locate and frame the railroad you chose; select the Map icon on the tool bar of the main application window.

To locate a Railroad system on the map you would follow the same steps as above, but instead, select from the Available Systems options.
